Adult Immunizations
The Stark County Health Department offers several adult immunizations. These vaccines include the Tetanus (Td), Meningococcal Vaccine, and the Hepatitis B series.
Tetanus (Td)
Tetanus is caused by the contamination of a wound by clostridium tetani bacilli. This bacilli affects the nervous system of the infected person. This illness cannot be transmitted from person to person. The symptoms may occur within two weeks after the wound is contaminated. The symptoms usually start with the individual having problems opening the jaw (lockjaw). The symptoms progress to convulsions, facial spasms, contractions, of back muscles, and spasms of the respiratory muscles, causing the person to have breathing difficulties and often lead to death.
This disease is prevented with the person being immunized with the tetanus toxoid (Td). The Td vaccine should be received every ten years. The cost of the vaccine is $10.00 and is administered by appointment on Thursdays and Fridays, or at one of our Immunization Clinics.
Immunization Clinics: This service is for anyone. Current immunization counseling and administration are offered at a ariety of places and times. Please bring a current immunization record and for a child, a parent or guardian. Fees are $10.00 per immunization, but no one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Medical cards are accepted.
